There are brighter days ahead
As the sun begins to show itself as we head into Spring, Alan Miller Optometrists in Irlam have reminded their patients that sunglasses provide more than just style.
The Opticians, on Liverpool Road, have said that sunglasses provide vital protection from the sun’s rays, which can be harmful to eyes if not protected.
Ultraviolet light from the sun can penetrate the eye without protection for prolonged periods and has been linked to certain conditions such as cataracts or macular degeneration.
This is why the practice are suggesting taking advantage of their extensive range of sun specs, which can also be fitted with your prescription.
Alan Miller Opticians have remained open for the whole of the past year to ensure they supported the local community with all of their eyecare needs. Customers are still able to purchase glasses, sunglasses and contact lenses, as well as see their optometrist in a safe, socially distanced and sanitised environment. During this period sight as well as life threatening eye conditions have been detected and managed by the practice.
Optometrist Sol Hakim said: “As so many of us have been shut off in our homes for so long, it’s only right that we should be spending as much time outside as possible, especially with the improved weather this time of year.
“However, spending more time in the sun does expose our eyes to more risks, particularly from UV rays, which can be a contributing factor to macular degeneration, the leading cause of sight loss.
“What many people don’t realise is that we’re exposed to natural UV light even on cloudy days, so make sure you take that into account when you’re out and about.
“The good news is that a quality pair of sunglasses will provide you with the adequate protection you need from these natural rays, particularly those that carry the CE mark.
“Some sunglasses don’t provide this protection, but at Alan Miller you will only find sunglasses that not only look good but also keep you safe.”
Despite new lockdown restrictions, Alan Miller Opticians is still providing eye tests to those who need access to eyecare.
Visits are by appointment only, and all staff have been vaccinated and equipped with full PPE and strict measures have been introduced to guarantee a safe environment.
